OTTAWA, January 25, 2005 - QNX Software Systems, the global leader in operating system technology for the in-car telematics and infotainment market, today announced its continued leadership and participation with COMET™ (Community Enabling Telematics) as the consortium expands into Europe. A founding member of COMET, QNX® was also the first realtime operating system (RTOS) provider to join the Renesas Technology-led consortium and has since been an active COMET partner in the U.S. market. As a founding consortium partner, QNX extends its participation to COMET's expansion into Europe, where QNX has a strong foothold of success, particularly among German automakers.

"From the onset, QNX has been a key partner for COMET in the U.S., and it's now bringing its market expertise and industry-proven technology to COMET Europe," said Chris Briggs, product marketing manager, SuperH Systems, Renesas Technology Europe Ltd. "QNX's many successes in the global automotive market testify to its understanding of the issues that concern automakers. QNX is a valuable partner and resource for the consortium and, together with other COMET members, is at the forefront of car infotainment and telematics systems."

Renesas Technology first launched the COMET consortium in the U.S. to bring integrated systems solutions to the car infotainment and telematics market. QNX's early participation in the U.S. program, and now the European program, demonstrates the company's long-standing commitment to the automotive market, where the QNX Neutrino® RTOS has become the de facto standard for operating system technology. Members of the COMET program help promote industry standardization by collaborating and delivering proven, integrated platform solutions that significantly eliminate development time for automotive OEMs.

"QNX has long focused on the rugged computing environment of the automotive market, which has been a natural venue for the relentless reliability and performance of QNX technology," said Andrew Poliak, automotive business manager, QNX Software Systems. "QNX works closely with the industry's leading players, including Renesas, and together with COMET partners, is paving the way for standards and integrated solutions that help accelerate the development of in-car telematics and infotainment systems."
