OTTAWA, Canada, May 5, 2010 QNX Software Systems, the global leader in operating systems and middleware for the automotive telematics and infotainment market, today announced that two QNX projects have been named finalists for the Telematics Detroit Awards 2010. The QNX® CAR application platform was named a finalist for the Best Telematics Component award, and the LTE Connected Car, a concept vehicle developed by QNX Software and Alcatel-Lucent as part of the ng Connect Program, was named a finalist in the Industry Newcomer category. The Telematics Detroit Awards recognize the most innovative people, products, and companies in the automotive telematics industry.
Since its launch in February 2009, the QNX CAR application platform has attracted more than 60 industry participants, including 17 automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and 26 automotive suppliers. The QNX CAR application platform is already being used in production programs for 2011 model year vehicles and provides the software foundation for the LTE Connected Car.
The LTE Connected Car, a project from the ng Connect Program whose members include QNX and Alcatel-Lucent, demonstrates the variety of telematics capabilities that can be brought into vehicles using the high-bandwidth capability of Long Term Evolution (LTE) 4G networks, including cloud-based navigation and speech recognition, video-on-demand, Internet radio, and other wireless broadband services.
QNX is extremely proud to be recognized out of the hundreds of companies considered for these awards, said Andrew Poliak, director of automotive business development at QNX Software Systems. Our company has a long tradition of innovation, and the QNX CAR platform and the LTE Connected Car are two manifestations of our ongoing efforts to drive the integration of telematics and infotainment services that represent the future of in-vehicle computing.
Two additional systems based on the QNX Neutrino® operating system have also been selected as finalists for 2010 Telematics Detroit Awards. The 2010 Audi A8 MMI system with Google Earth was named a finalist in the Best Embedded Telematics Navigation Product category, and OnStar was named a finalist in the Best Embedded Telematics Service, Best Embedded Telematics Navigation Product, and Best Use of Telematics Technology in the Public Sector categories.
Telematics Update will announce the award winners on June 7, 2010, at an awards dinner at the Ford Rouge Factory in Dearborn, Michigan in conjunction with the Telematics Detroit 2010 Conference & Exhibition in Novi, Michigan.
