EMBEDDED SYSTEMS CONFERENCE, San Francisco, March 12, 2002 - QNX Software Systems today is kicking off the beta program for its new QNX® integrated development environment (IDE), the first commercial IDE for embedded development based on the Eclipse platform.
Developers working with the beta release of the QNX IDE will have the advantage of a complete toolset for code development, debugging, project source management, memory analysis, and profiling - all tightly integrated under a single user interface.
The initial beta version of the tools include a C/C++ code developer that provides time-saving features like code completion, error parsing, and templates; a debugger that can debug multiple processes, languages, and targets simultaneously; a project source manager for handling complex multi-projects; performance analysis tools for memory usage and profiling; a flexible target agent architecture for debugging an embedded target over virtually any connection; and a system builder that lets programmers create embedded images with point-and-click simplicity.
Compared to existing IDEs, the QNX IDE raises the bar for tool-to-tool integration. For example, memory analysis is tightly coupled to the debugger - when a memory allocation error is detected, the IDE can automatically switch to the debugger perspective so the developer can pinpoint the problem. The QNX IDE will also provide identical capabilities and tools across multiple host platforms - Solaris, Windows, and the QNX RTOS - so that all developers on a project can work with the same tools and source code.
"By allowing tools to work hand-in-hand, the QNX IDE eliminates much of the time and effort traditionally associated with embedded development," said Bill Chalmers, Engineering Director Platform Solutions, Intel Corporation. "This, in combination with the fault-tolerant QNX RTOS, can give those Intel customers building networking and embedded applications the best of both worlds: higher productivity and field-proven reliability."
"Several QNX customers have already previewed the QNX IDE, and, in every case, they were impressed not just by the wealth and quality of the tools, but by the way the tools worked in concert to accelerate all aspects of the development cycle - from code creation to remote debugging," said Alec Saunders, vice president of marketing at QNX Software Systems. "So, we're understandably excited about taking this to the next step and getting the QNX IDE into the hands of a wider group of embedded developers."
QNX will demonstrate the new IDE at the Embedded Systems Conference in San Francisco. Visit booth #818.
