ORLANDO, Freescale Technology Forum, June 22, 2005 QNX Software Systems today announced that its QNX® Neutrino® realtime operating system (RTOS) is the undisputed performance champion for Freescale Semiconductor processors based on PowerPC® cores.
According to Dedicated Systems Experts, an independent firm renowned for its rigorous and unbiased evaluations of operating system software, the QNX Neutrino RTOS consistently outperformed every other OS that Dedicated Systems has ever tested.
The QNX Neutrino RTOS v6.3 was subjected to a battery of stress and throughput tests on the Freescale Altimus X3 evaluation board, running an MPC7410 PowerPC processor. In each test case, QNX Neutrino outperformed other competitors also tested on this platform, such as Enea OSE v 4.5.1. QNX Neutrino was also tested against operating systems from vendors such as Microsoft, MontaVista, and Wind River, using other target processor architectures. And, in every test case, QNX Neutrino came out on top.
The hard realtime capabilities of QNX Neutrino, coupled with its lightning-fast and predictable response times, led Dedicated Systems experts to award it the highest ranking of any OS tested 9 out of 10.
QNX Neutrino is unique in the operating system market through its use of a component-based software architecture, which brings outstanding benefits to our customers, said Dan Dodge, president of QNX Software Systems. QNX easily leapfrogs the competition in harnessing the capabilities of advanced processor architectures, such as our collaboration with Freescale to be the one of the first to support the MPC8548E communications processor enabled by RapidIO interconnect technology.
The QNX Neutrino RTOS is able to expertly harness the performance capabilities of Freescales high-performance PowerPC processors and our PowerQUICC communications processors containing PowerPC cores, said Dave Mothersole, chief technology officer of Freescales Networking and Computing Systems Group. QNX has been a long-standing partner with Freescale, and we applaud their work to continually improve the realtime software performance of our joint networking customers.
