OTTAWA, February 25, 2010 — QNX Software Systems today announced that its persistent publish/subscribe (PPS) technology for embedded systems has been named a finalist in the 2010 embedded AWARDs. The nomination recognizes PPS for its ability to enable flexible, future-ready embedded designs that can support new hardware or software features with a minimum of effort.

In most embedded systems, software components communicate with one another using brittle, point-to-point connections that often “break” when new features are introduced. PPS technology addresses the problem by allowing developers to build loosely connected systems based on asynchronous publications and notifications. As a result, it becomes much easier to add, remove, or replace software components without having to modify other components.

PPS technology from QNX Software Systems is particularly useful for embedded designs that combine low-level device control with high-level user applications, such as a smart energy management system that uses a human machine interface (HMI) based on Adobe Flash.

The embedded AWARDs recognize outstanding technical innovations in hardware, software, and development tools. Winners are selected by an independent jury of experts and will be announced at the opening ceremony of embedded world on March 2, 2010.
