TOKYO, September 29, 2004 - Over 70 of Japan's largest corporations and technology powerhouses gathered in central Tokyo today to celebrate the fifth anniversary of QNX Software Systems' operation in Japan.

With companies such as Epson, JVC, Matsushita, and Sumitomo making up QNX's customer base, the QNX Japan office is now firmly entrenched as the company's foothold in the burgeoning Asian market. Revenue from direct and indirect sales channels has been strong, averaging annual growth of 25 per cent.

To serve the increasing customer demand, QNX also announced today several new growth initiatives. First, QNX will expand its Tokyo office by hiring additional sales and technical support staff. Second, QNX will expand its relationship with partner FreeStation Inc. to provide first-line customer support. Finally, QNX also announced that a new distribution partner, Advanced Systems, has joined the QNX Solutions Network in Japan, which includes Hashimoto Shokai Co. Ltd., FORKS Inc., Kyokuto Boeki Kaisha Ltd., and Free Station.

Since 1999, QNX has provided its technology and services to leading Japanese companies in several markets, including industrial automation, process control, and consumer electronics. For the years ahead, the company predicts strong growth in the emerging automotive telematics and in-car computing markets. To complement its offerings for each of these markets, QNX continues to build strategic partnerships with companies such as Access, IBM, Intel, Renesas, Hitachi, and Motorola/Freescale.

"Our Japanese user conference is a validation of QNX's strong customer and partner base in Japan," said Eric Parraudin, representative director of QNX Software Systems KK. "Japan is a global hub for technology innovation, and we plan to continue investing in this market to deliver superior software products to our expanding range of customers."

QNX products available in Japan include the QNX® Neutrino® RTOS, the world's only commercial microkernel operating system, and the QNX Momentics® development suite, a powerful, integrated development platform based on the Eclipse open framework.
