QNX Accelerates Networking, Automotive, and Industrial Control Development with Support for New Motorola MPC5200 Processor

OTTAWA, July 22, 2003 - - Building on its traction in the networking, automotive and industrial control markets, QNX Software Systems today announced that the QNX® Neutrino® realtime operating system (RTOS) will support the new MPC5200 processor with 760 MIPS from Motorola Inc.'s Semiconductor Products Sector. Now, developers in these markets can use the QNX Neutrino RTOS to harness the low power and high performance of the MPC5200 to develop applications such as gateways, industrial controllers, telematics control units, global positioning systems, instrumentation, and data image processing devices.

Utilizing a PowerPC® 603e core, the 400MHz MPC5200 combines low power, high performance, and a broad range of input/output (I/O) in a single, cost-effective package. This 32-bit embedded processor essentially eliminates the need for multiple processors in designs and provides ample headroom for product upgrades and differentiation.

About the Motorola MPC5200 Processor
Including the new BestComm intelligent DMA controller, Double Data Rate Memory support, and a PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) interface in a 272-pin package, the processor was designed for high data throughput while being cost-effective. The MPC5200 also offers exceptional flexibility via support for numerous automotive and general networking functions, including Ethernet, USB 1.1 Host, CAN (Controller Area Network) 2.0, J1850 BDLC-D, ATA (Advanced Technology Attachment), I2S (Inter-IC Sound), I2C (Inter-IC), SPI, and multiple UARTs.

The processor comes with a Lite5200 Evaluation Board (EVB) Kit that includes an evaluation version Board Support Package (BSP) for QNX Neutrino RTOS.

Long-term BSP Support
In Q3 2003, QNX Software Systems will release integrated BSP support for the Lite5200 platform into the QNX Momentics® development suite.
