OTTAWA, May 2, 2006 -QNX Software Systems, the leading supplier of realtime operating systems (RTOS) for in-car telematics and infotainment applications, is a finalist in two categories of Telematics Update Magazine’s 2006 Awards. The QNX® Neutrino® realtime operating system is a finalist in the Best Telematics Embedded Product Award category, and Andrew Poliak, QNX’s automotive segment manager, is a finalist for the prestigious Leadership Award.

The Telematics Update Best Telematics Embedded Product Award recognizes the best embedded telematics solution, namely one that delivers the most cost-effective benefits, quality, and functionality. The ultra-reliable QNX Neutrino RTOS can be found in over 140 vehicle models worldwide. Many of the world’s leading automakers and Tier 1 suppliers such as Audi, Acura, DaimlerChrysler, Hyundai, Johnson Controls, JVC, LG Electronics, and Saab use QNX Neutrino because it allows them to deploy innovative telematics features faster, and at less cost, than any other solution.

The Leadership Award nomination recognizes Andrew Poliak’s role in building the largest ecosystem of middleware and silicon suppliers in the telematics industry. His work as an industry spokesperson and as a key member of industry consortia such as the Freescale mobileGT consortium, COMET, and the SH-Navi consortium has helped shape the current state of the telematics market, and his impact will be recognizable in telematics products for years to come.

“We are thrilled to be named a finalist in the Telematics Awards for the third consecutive year in a row,” said Dave Curley, vice president of marketing at QNX Software Systems. “QNX has been on the front lines in innovation since telematics was in its infancy and in the future our realtime operating system will continue to be the cornerstone of the most advanced systems for in-car telematics, infotainment, and navigation.”

“In the future, consumers are going to expect their vehicles to integrate seamlessly into their digital lifestyles for entertainment, convenience, information, safety, and security,” says Ven Pedro, event director for Telematics Update Detroit 2006. “The Telematics Update Awards recognizes those companies that are helping make this future a reality through innovative new products, solutions, and services.” Earlier this year, QNX was awarded the prestigious 2006 Automotive Software Industry Innovation & Advancement of the Year Award from Frost & Sullivan for innovative technological advances proven by a consistent production of software for controlling and connecting the increasing amount of in-vehicle electronic equipment used for communication, entertainment, and safety.

Telematics Update Award winners will be announced at the gala dinner that closes the opening night of the 6th annual Telematics Detroit Conference and Exhibition, May 23, 2006, at the Rock Financial Showplace in Michigan, USA.
