QNX and Freescale Collaborate on Next-Generation Development Technology for Automakers

    DETROIT, QNX Automotive Summit, November 6, 2007 — QNX Software Systems, the leading supplier of embedded operating systems, middleware, and development tools for car infotainment and telematics applications, today announced a collaboration with Freescale Semiconductor to help automakers accelerate the development of next-generation telematics, infotainment, and multimedia applications. To facilitate this collaboration, Freescale Semiconductor has become a hardware sponsor of the QNX® OEM Innovation Labs (OIL) program, which provides leading-edge technology to the advanced design centers of automobile manufacturers around the world.

    In addition to the full suite of QNX development software, including the QNX Neutrino® RTOS, the award-winning QNX Momentics® IDE, value-added middleware packages, and source code, qualifying members of the OIL program can now take advantage of Freescale’s highly integrated MPC5200 embedded processor. With its foundation in the highly successful mobileGT™ alliance and platforms, the award-winning MPC5200 serves computing-intensive applications and meets the AECQ-100 certification for extended temperature capabilities, service reliability, and extended product availability demanded by the automotive industry.

    QNX also plans to support the recently announced MPC5121e embedded processor designed for automotive applications, including telematics, infotainment systems, and multimedia applications.

    As part of the two companies’ mutual support and focus on speeding telematics applications to market, Freescale will jointly invest with QNX in the support for the MPC5121e processor. This joint investment will create one of the most comprehensive board support packages (BSPs) targeting telematics, making it far easier for research groups to prototype new applications and technologies.
