QNX Harnesses Hyper-Threading Technology with Support for Low-Voltage Intel® XeonTM Processors

OTTAWA, September 4, 2002 - Developers of high-bandwith core and edge networking equipment can now use the QNX® Neutrino® RTOS from QNX Software Systems to exploit the high performance of Hyper-Threading Technology available on Intel Xeon processors, including the newly introduced low-voltage Intel Xeon processor.

In fact, because QNX Neutrino also supports true symmetric multiprocessing (SMP), systems designers can now combine SMP and Hyper-Threading Technology to significantly boost the computational power of their network elements. Hyper-Threading Technology improves processor design by supporting multiple concurrent threads on each processor in a system, increasing performance of multithreaded applications by up to 30 percent.

Hyper-Threading Technology can significantly extend the performance advantages of an SMP system by running multiple concurrent threads per processor. The combined computational power of SMP and Hyper-Threading Technology gives high-end networking equipment unprecedented scalability to handle increased workloads, without the need for forklift upgrades.
