InFocus Selects QNX for New LiteShow Wireless Projection Solution

OTTAWA, June 2, 2003 - QNX Software Systems today announced that InFocus® Corporation, the worldwide leader in digital projection technology and services, has selected the QNX® Neutrino® realtime operating (RTOS) for its new LiteShow® wireless projection solution. Given the flexibility of the LiteShow technology and the high performance it requires, InFocus turned to the inherently reliable and scalable microkernel architecture unique to the QNX Neutrino RTOS.

LiteShow is the world's first "connect and project," zero-configuration wireless projection system. Created to produce more efficient meetings where users can securely project their ideas from anywhere in the room, LiteShow is compatible with most InFocus projectors produced in the last four years, and features the performance and security on par with cabled projection.

"LiteShow is the first truly user-friendly wireless system for projection designed to give our customers the freedom and flexibility to present their best image and ideas anytime and anywhere," said David Woolf, director of product management at InFocus. "We chose to partner with QNX because they provide robust and reliable technology that customers expect in wireless solutions."

Built on client-server architecture, LiteShow connects to any M1-DA connector on a projector to display content from any PC. The device features a rich set of drivers, including an 802.11b wireless driver, a video driver for high-resolution output, and an SMC9000 wired Ethernet driver. The QNX Neutrino RTOS is architected to keep multi-driver systems like LiteShow up and running without fail, and to keep each component within its own memory-protected space. Many of the drivers were custom developed by the QNX professional services team, who also worked closely with InFocus to select hardware for the product.

"For a small device, LiteShow is a sophisticated application with a rich set of drivers that need to be protected from each other," said Sachin Lawande, director, product management, QNX Software Systems. "Engineering these custom drivers is a significant part of the joint development efforts between InFocus and QNX. We work with our customers to build future-ready systems that can be upgraded easily, without having to take down or rebuild the system." LiteShow is available from InFocus Corporation.
