QNX Previews New IDE for Embedded Development at Embedded Systems Show

OTTAWA, March 4, 2002 - Embedded developers who choose the QNX RTOS for its unmatched reliability will soon have another reason to use QNX technology: significantly faster development cycles. This is all thanks to the new QNX integrated development environment (IDE), to be showcased next week at the Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) in San Francisco. Show attendees can have a sneak peek at this QNX offering in booth # 818.

The new QNX IDE will offer a complete set of tools for code development, project management, debugging, analysis, and profiling, all closely integrated under a single user interface. The QNX IDE will also work across multiple development platforms, including Solaris, Windows, and the QNX RTOS, allowing all embedded developers on a project to share the same toolset, even if they don't all use the same development host.

As the first commercial IDE based on the Eclipse platform, the QNX IDE also provides unparalleled tool-to-tool integration, both at the functional and user-interface levels. Tools can work together seamlessly - even if they are from different tools vendors - allowing developers to choose the best tools available for their project requirements.

"When it comes to faster development, QNX developers will soon enjoy the best of both worlds - a microkernel operating system that eliminates needless debugging by allowing all drivers and applications to run as memory-protected processes, and an IDE that eliminates mundane programming tasks by allowing all tools to communicate with each other, rather than simply coexist. Developers can, as a result, focus on what's important: creating reliable, innovative products," said Alec Saunders, vice president of marketing at QNX Software Systems.

ESC San Francisco, which runs March 12-16 at the Moscone Center, is a technical conference focused on helping developers gain the knowledge and skills necessary to make their embedded designs better, faster and more reliable. Engineers, developers, and project managers discover practical embedded solutions at ESC.
