ACCELERATE CERTIFICATION

ISO 26262 safety certification is a huge burden—and an almost insurmountable challenge when you use software of unknown provenance (SOUP). Using a pre-certified microkernel OS or embedded hypervisor for building safety-critical systems can significantly reduce the scope, cost, risk and duration of your certification processes—and allows you to run mixed criticality systems on the same SoC. 

BlackBerry QNX solutions including QNX® OS for Safety, QNX® Hypervisor for Safety and QNX® Black Channel Communications Technology are pre-certified by TÜV Rheinland up to ISO 26262 ASIL D to accelerate compliance by reducing the scope of system certification. QNX Black Channel Communications Technology adds an additional layer of protection to ensure safe data communication exchanges within safety and mixed-criticality systems.

The QNX microkernel architecture separates critical OS components into their own protected memory partitions. All OS services run outside of kernel space in a high-availability, fault-tolerant design. In complex systems, the QNX Hypervisor provides the supervision and management capabilities to safely and reliably allow separate functional software areas to share common hardware and resources across multiple guest OSs.

EASILY PORT SOFTWARE

Standardized software helps scale technology across vehicle programs. Designing and building your systems using standard APIs (e.g., PSE54, OpenGLES) and tools (e.g., ,GCC toolchain, Eclipse IDE and plugins) provides widespread benefits for development workflows. Additionally, the use of trusted software that scales for use on single core to multicore high-performance processors ensures maximum portability and design flexibility.

The QNX OS is POSIX-based, like Linux®, and uses the same Eclipse development environment, including the GNU compiler. BlackBerry is a member of the Adaptive AUTOSAR consortium, and QNX OS for Safety and QNX Hypervisor for Safety support the Adaptive Platform.
